About Gioze
I'm Gio — the "Gio" and the "ze" in Gioze.
I grew up in Georgia (the country, not the state). My earliest wallpaper memories are not glamorous: my mom would install it, and I would "help" — which mostly meant bargaining. Mom, if I smooth out this wall, will you buy me that toy? I hated every minute of it. I couldn't wait to grow up and never touch another roll of paper in my life.
So of course I moved to Los Angeles and ended up in film production. Wallpaper was officially behind me. Or so I thought.
Then one day, a set needed paper hung and nobody on the crew knew how. I did. I hung it. The producer walked over, looked at the wall, and said — "Can you come do my house?" I said yes, figuring it was a one-time thing.
One house turned into a friend's house. A friend's house turned into a designer who'd seen my work. Before I knew it I was hiring people to help me keep up. That was 2014. I've been hanging paper in Los Angeles ever since.
Twelve years later, we've completed nearly 700 installations across LA — powder rooms, master suites, boutique hotels, restaurants, apartment blocks, movie sets and offices. Our clients have left us 300+ five-star reviews on Thumbtack, and our work has been featured on Fox, CBS, NBC, and ABC. The Hollywood names my childhood self would have been shocked by? Yeah. Those too.
Turns out Mom was onto something…

The "most popular" wallpaper is subjective. Popularity can depend on era, cultural context, and even regional preferences. Some popular wallpaper choices are Classic Wallpaper Patterns, Iconic Wallpaper Designs, and Modern Digital Wallpaper Trends.

There's no single "better" choice between paint and wallpaper - it depends on your goals. Wallpaper offers bold designs, unique aesthetics, and surprising durability. However, paint is more budget-friendly, easier to change, and better suited for damp spaces. Consider your priorities and desired look to find the perfect wallcovering for your space.

In most cases, painting your walls is a more budget-friendly option compared to wallpaper. Paint itself is generally less expensive, and even factoring in supplies, the total cost tends to be lower. Plus, applying paint is a DIY-friendly project, while wallpaper installation can require professional help, adding to the overall cost. However, keep in mind that high-quality wallpaper can be quite durable, potentially lasting longer than multiple paint jobs.

Beyond wallpaper, there's a world of creative possibilities for your walls! For a touch of texture and warmth, consider wood paneling in various finishes, from rustic to sleek and modern. Fabric wall hangings, like tapestries or large-scale art pieces, add a unique and cozy element. Stencils with paint can create custom designs or personalized patterns. And for a bold statement, consider tiles - they come in a vast array of colors, patterns, and finishes, offering excellent durability and easy maintenance, especially in kitchens and bathrooms.
-
While wallpaper offers undeniable beauty and design flair, there are some downsides to consider. The upfront cost can be higher than paint, especially for high-quality options or if you require professional installation. Wallpaper removal can also be a time-consuming and messy process, potentially damaging walls underneath. Although some wallpapers are washable, they're generally less forgiving than paint when it comes to everyday wear and tear or splashes. Finally, trendy patterns may go out of style faster than a simple paint color, requiring a more permanent commitment to your design choice.

Wallpaper itself won't directly devalue your home in an appraisal, as appraisers focus on the overall condition of the house. However, it can affect marketability. Outdated wallpaper patterns or damaged wallpaper removal attempts might turn off potential buyers. Since most buyers prefer neutral palettes and a clean slate, wallpaper can make it harder for them to envision their own style in the space. To maximize your home's appeal, consider neutral wallpaper options or removing wallpaper altogether before selling.
